Pada chapter 7, pengarang menggambarkan tokoh utama yaitu Alice sebagai anak perempuan yang pemarah dibuktikan dalam kalimat “’there’s plenty of room!!’ said Alice indignently”, Alice juga seorang anak yang kurang sopan karena Alice duduk sebelum dipersilahkan, hal ini dibuktikan dalam kalimat “she sit down in a large arm-chair at one end of teh table”. Selain itu, Alice juga seorang anak yang percaya diri dibuktikan dalam kalimat “i believe i can guess that!”.
Tokoh ini digambarkan sebagai tokoh yang meberikan pelajaran moral kepada Alice dibuktikan dalam kalimat “wasn’t very civil of you to sit down being invited”.
He poured a little hot tea upon its nose. I think you might the something better with the time,’ She said, ‘than waste it in asking riddles that have no answers’”.
Penggambaran setting tempatnya yaitu di sebuah meja makan dengan perlengkapan lainya yang berada di bawah pohon di depan rumah, dibuktikan dalam kalimat “there was a table set out under a tree in front of the house”. Kemudian seting suasana digambarkan dengan seting suasana yang gaduh yang  digambarkan dalam kalimat “the table was a large one, but the three were all crowded together at one corner of it”.

The Character of Christopher Marshall in Berlie Doherty’s Dear Nobody

Christopher Marshall is as the major character in “Dear Nobody” novel. We learn about Chris character from his thoughts, his actions, and his conversations with Helen who is as the second major character and with the other characters in the novel. He becomes the main character in this story because in the first chapter the story is told in his point of view, although Helen perspective is also dominated the story by her letters, but it is still in Chris thoughts.
Christopher Marshall is a senior high school student who wants to join a college in Newcastle. He has a girlfriend named Helen. It is known from the beginning in the story in January.
(As on page 4, 1st paragraph)
“I put my arms round her. It meant that in October our ways would separate, mine to Newcastle, her to Manchester. But October was a long way away.”
Christopher Marshall is a good brother. It is known from his action with his younger brother named Guy when he and his younger brother play froth in the kitchen and from his thoughts that he enjoys the time when Guy with him at his bedroom. Although he is a good brother, it doesn’t same with his parents’ condition which is divorced. It is known from his conversation with his father.
(Page 7, last paragraph)
““Very funny, Guy.” I kept it there, letting it wobble as I talked. We were both gasping for breath. I love fighting with Guy. “But I’m above such childishness.””
(Page 30, 3rd paragraph)
“....I quite enjoyed having Guy in my room again. We sat up in bed till all hours talking. Guy was excited about the gales.”

(Page 10-13, started from 12th line)
“”Dad,” I said.”What happened to you and mum?”.....”
At the beginning of the story in the novel, Chris is told as a boy who deep in love with Helen. He is a good lover for her. It is clearly seen from his actions with Helen when they made love at Helen’s house and he also composes a song for Helen. From his thoughts we can know that he really love with Helen.
 (Page 9, 8th paragraph)
“I wrote a song for Helen. I worked out some chords for it on my guitar, then tried it all again in a minor key. I wrote another verse and practiced and singing it,
One day, Chris knew that Helen is pregnant, and when he knew about it he becomes confuse. It shows by his thoughts that he’s closer and protective with Helen than before because of her pregnancy, but he feels scared inside then. Helen’s pregnancy emerged a conflict in his life; he demanded to be grown-up and responsible for what he had done.
          (Page 38, 1st paragraph)
“....I didn’t believe what she had told me but I felt closer to her than I’d ever felt before, responsible, and protective.”
(Page 38, 2nd paragraph)
“....I’ve no idea what I meant by them. When I thought about them afterwards I went cold and scared inside, but at the time it seemed to be the only thing to say, so I said it.”
In its development in the story, Chris’ other characteristics are shown up. His immature character is visible because he cannot give a solution to solve his problem with Helen. It is seen in a conversation with his father and his written for Amy in the end of October. From his action he shows nothing to help Helen or to find the best choice for him and Helen.
          (Page 100, 13th paragraph)
“Are you expecting her to throw up all her chances too? What the hell were you thinking of?”

His other characteristic is irresponsible, because from his conversation with Helen’s mother he just agreed when she told him that Helen wanted to get abortion and told him to forget Helen. From his action we know that he finally decided to leave Helen and went to Newcastle for his degree, as it shows that he is really an irresponsible and egoist person.
          (Page 83, from 5th paragraph-8th paragraph)
....”She’s told me everything. I want you to know that you’re never to come to this house again. Do you understand?
“I nodded like a fool......”
In brief, from the beginning to the end of Dear Nobody novel the characterization of Christopher Marshall is not changed but his characterization is grown. Chris is still being the lover of Helen, but in its development appeared the other side of his character. When the problem shows up, his immature, irresponsible, and egoist character are visible.
